Hayes Bloom

Full Home Remodel | Hayes Valley, San Francisco

This three-story Victorian home in San Francisco’s Hayes Valley neighborhood was remodeled to improve functionality while preserving its original architectural character. The scope focused on the two lower levels, with the goal of unifying the space and refining details introduced in previous remodels.

A key move was relocating the kitchen staircase to the entry, carefully tucking it beneath the existing staircase to the upper floor. This opened up the kitchen and allowed for a more spacious and functional layout. A full-height storage wall conceals the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry, while a large island provides generous workspace.

At the rear of the home, a new nine-foot-tall steel door brings in natural light and frames views of the garden, strengthening the connection to the outdoors. We also incorporated a powder room and a small den within the reworked layout.

The adjacent dining and entry areas were updated with a focus on preserving original details, including the fireplace, sliding doors, stained glass, and built-ins, while introducing new finishes, lighting, and tile to unify the overall design.

The result is a home that maintains its historic character while feeling more cohesive, functional, and connected, blending original Victorian details with warm mid-century modern influences.
