Sunset Chill

Design Build | San Francisco

SFDB was hired to complete a primary suite attic addition and full facade restoration on this beautiful single-family, pre-earthquake Victorian home.

The existing attic had a beautiful old wooden staircase leading up to what was barely usable space: a tiny bathroom and closet dividing two small rooms with a very low ceiling height. To meet Planning Codes we needed to keep the first fifteen feet of space at the front of the property (as it was visible from the street) and then beyond that we were able to open up towards the rear to create a top floor living space that includes a cozy den, large master bedroom with deck, as well as a walk-in closet and large bathroom with separate tub and shower.

Some special moments to mention include the large tub window that frames a view of the Golden Gate bridge, three bathroom skylights that provide ample natural lighting (the absolute best for a bathroom!) the sliding door system to the deck and beautiful decorative light fixtures used throughout.

For the facade we referenced a historic photo to carefully reconstruct all trim and details to match the original design. We then painted everything a deep blue gray to add a modern feel to the new/old facade.
